"Keagy-Noble" Federal Issue Blanket
We are extremely excited to now be able to offer you an outstanding reproduction of a Federal Issue blanket! Orchard Hill Sutlery is now an authorized dealer for the "Keagy-Noble" blanket that is made by the Waterside Woolen Mills in Woodbury Pennsylvania. The Keagy-Noble blanket (K/N) blanket is an original production of America's oldest equipped and operational woolen mill. Much of the antique textile machinery used in the making of these blankets dates from the Civil War period, and most pre-dates any in commercial use today. The K/N blanket is an example of the nearly extinct art of the operation of the 19th century woolen system. The Adjutant General was responsible for the specifications of the Uniform and Dress of the Army of the United States during the war. In 1851, General Order Number 31 described No. 143 Blanket- woolen, grey, with letters U.S. in black, four inches long, in the center, to be seven feet long and five and a half feet wide and to weigh five pounds. This blanket is about as close to the original as you can get. Authentic mill, authentic location, authentic construction, authentic techniques, authentic machinery, authentic materials. Simply outstanding.
