"Guides - Posts"

The Manual of Civil War Drill Which Consolidates and Reclassifies the Schools of the Soldier and Company, Incorporates Division Drill, and Includes the Complete Instruction for Skirmishers

Derived from Brigadier General William J. Hardee's "Revised and Improved Tactics" (1862) and from Other Period Sources

Complied by Mark (Silas) Tackitt (2004)

130 pages soft cover string bound

"Guides-Posts" is a Civil War manual devoted to necessary company and division drill for reenactors and is targeted at the newest soldier through the most seasoned company commander. The maneuvers detailed in the period manuals penned by Gilham, Casey, and Hardee are generally the same. Each manual commenced with schools of the soldier then proceeded to the schools of the company and battalion. This scattering of concepts has caused many reenactors to miss the nuances between how a maneuver is handled in the lower schools and in the higher schools. "Guides-Posts" retains the specific language from the period manuals, but otherwise discards the old system by combining topics from different schools and reorganizing them into new topics constituting one large school of several subparts.

Complete with diagrams and reference sources. This manual should find space in every knapsack, all reenactors will find it valuable.
